Linux Systems Engineer

Note: This is a full-time employee role – the client is only open to US Citizens and Green Card holders

Linux Systems Engineer with a New York City based financial firm. Manage and maintain all Linux systems for maximum uptime. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all server hardware and software to ensure optimal performance. Document and troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance when required. Provide 2nd tier, 24/7 production support as it applies to Linux systems and Enterprise applications.

Major Responsibilities:

Project based implementations and deployment of new systems/services within the Infrastructure department
Alert/Ticket monitoring
Respond to issues involving supported environments which include mission critical trading systems and applications
Monitor and manage enterprise scheduling system
Keep systems up to date and secure
Test and implement new Linux based software
Assess the need for and implement performance upgrades to servers
Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding Linux infrastructure problems
Accurately document instances of Linux infrastructure server component failure, repair, installation, and removal
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
Min 3 years Linux/Unix system administration
The ability to solve problems via standard and non-standard methods
Extensive experience in the following:
Redhat Enterprise Linux, or other flavors of Linux
Linux File systems
X86 hardware
Virtualization (VMware )
Knowledge and understanding of the following:
Storage technologies.
Network communication protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, SNMP, SSL, etc.)
Networking infrastructure technologies and troubleshooting
Shell Scripting, Perl, Python
Clustering of Linux based systems for failover and high availability
Comfortable working directly with business users, developers and support staff
Excellent time management and organizational skills
